Jack London State Historic Park
This famous American writer known by his beautiful books like White Fang, The Iron Heel, The Call of the Wild, The Sea Wolf, and more than 50 other books lived here in this beautiful tranquil 800-acre (325-ha) expanse of oaks, madrones, buckeyes, and Giant redwoods.
Jack London (1876-1916) (John Griffith Chaney) has named this land the Beauty Ranch, and it still has his original stables, vineyards, and of course the small cottage where he lived.
The park is a perfect destination for the whole family. A quiet picnic or a hike is a must. There are also the remains of Jack London's dream home, called Wolf House, that was burned to the ground before it was completed. The cause is still unknown.
His wife Charmian Kittredge continued to live here and she built a magnificent home on the ranch, that is called the House of Happy Walls. The house currently displays memorabilia of Jack London.
The Visitors can see Jack London's original writing desk, some of the copies of his work and other art collections.
"The grapes on a score of rolling hills are red with autumn flame. Across Sonoma Mountain wisps of sea fog are stealing. The afternoon sun smoulders in the drowsy sky. I have everything to make me glad I am alive. I am filled with dreams and mysteries. I am all sun and air and sparkle. I am vitalized, organic."
